Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a key electricity provider serving approximately 9 million residents in North Delhi, has entered into a strategic collaboration with Magna Yuma Private Limited—a company focused on providing battery swapping services for electric vehicles. Together, they aim to set up and expand a network of EV battery swapping stations across Tata Power-DDL’s operational zones.
As part of the partnership, Tata Power-DDL will offer dedicated space within its infrastructure to facilitate the setup of the swapping stations. Magna Yuma will take the lead in managing the technical aspects—including the design, procurement, installation, and day-to-day maintenance of the facilities.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed in the presence of leadership teams from both organizations. Representing Tata Power-DDL were Mr. Dwijadas Basak, CEO; Ms. Kiran Gupta, Chief – Customer Experience, Communications, Government Affairs, EAC & Consumer Litigation; Mr. Praveen Agrawal, Chief – HR, IR, FM & HS; Mr. Raj Kumar Rastogi, Chief – Operations & Safety; and Mr. Surender Singh, Chief – Network Services & Stores. From Magna Yuma Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Abhilash Kumar, Lead Business Head, and Mr. Harshal Gupta, Lead – Public Policy & Government Affairs, were in attendance.
This collaboration is driven by a shared vision to create a comprehensive EV ecosystem in Delhi, with a special focus on electric two-wheelers serving the gig economy—such as delivery agents and commercial riders. By bringing together Tata Power-DDL’s infrastructure capabilities and Magna Yuma’s battery-swapping technology, the initiative aims to boost the adoption of clean transportation, reduce both air and noise pollution, and open up new income avenues for gig workers.
Additionally, the battery swapping stations are expected to reduce unauthorized electricity usage and create more efficient and profitable systems for shared mobility operators.
Commenting on this partnership, Mr. Dwijadas Basak, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited said, “Tata Power-DDL is pleased to partner with Magna Yuma in expanding the battery-swapping network in Delhi. This initiative is aligned with our commitment to drive clean energy adoption and promote sustainable mobility. Together, we aim to reduce air and noise pollution while creating socio-economic opportunities for the city’s youth and strengthening the gig economy.”
To kick off the initiative, Magna Yuma will install the first two battery swapping stations at Tata Power-DDL’s grid substations in Shalimar Bagh and Badli. These sites will serve as pilot locations and a model for future expansion across the city.
