Tiruppur has emerged as one of India’s leading knitwear export hubs. The city has recorded strong growth in textile exports over the past 35 years.
According to a report by Business Standard, Tiruppur’s knitwear exports stood at ₹429 crore in 1991. The figure rose to ₹46,000 crore in financial year 2025-26.
This represents a 107-fold increase in exports. The growth highlights the scale of Tiruppur’s textile and garment industry.
Tiruppur is located about 463 kilometres west of Chennai. Its textile cluster has developed through entrepreneurship, production growth and export expansion.
The city now serves markets across more than 50 countries. Knitwear remains a key part of its export economy.
Tiruppur’s growth also reflects the wider development of India’s textile sector after economic liberalisation. The cluster has built a strong position in global apparel trade through its manufacturing base and export network.
