Nov. 2024, Delhi, India: The renowned FMCG conglomerate Dharampal Satyapal Group (DS Group) has teamed up with climate tech firm Liquid Trees to launch India’s first outdoor Liquid Tree in a ground-breaking attempt to promote urban sustainability. An important step has been taken in the battle against urban air pollution and climate change with this installation at the DS Headquarters in Noida. Six mature trees’ worth of CO2 is captured by 1600 L of a microalgae solution inside the cubical structure. This construction demonstrates the amazing potential of microalgae in establishing a sustainable ecosystem in addition to symbolizing the blending of nature, technology, and art.
Because it contains microalgae, the urban photo-bioreactor known as the Liquid Tree is called a tree in liquid form. The fast-growing, photosynthetic microorganisms known as microalgae have many advantages, including the ability to produce oxygen, remove particulate matter, and sequester carbon dioxide. The collected microalgae also contribute to a circular economy by providing local plants with nutrient-rich feed. Microalgae are a feasible alternative for cities where pollution is a problem because they can be planted in a matter of weeks, whereas regular trees may take years to grow. In addition to its usefulness, the Liquid Tree serves as a visible reminder to take environmental action, inspiring local communities to get involved and adopt green practices.
The installation of the Liquid Tree signifies a dedication to environmental sustainability, according to Mr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, DS Group, who made the announcement. Climate change and air quality are two issues that we must deal with. As a society, it is becoming more and more critical that we adopt creative solutions that use nature’s resources to address our most important problems. The Liquid Tree is a useful tool in our battle against pollution, but it also represents our capacity for innovation and adaptation in the face of climate change. We at the DS Group are committed to funding projects that help create a healthier India for present and future generations.
“Trees are amazing, and we want to educate the world about the very first ‘trees’ that are – microalgae, the original lifeforms that pioneered oxygen production on Earth,” said Abhinav Palaparthy, spokesperson and head of Liquid Trees India. Reiterating its position as a global leader in green and sustainable construction methods, the installation at the DS headquarters is the first of its kind in India. We are thrilled to collaborate with DS Group, a business that is as dedicated to sustainable operations and a more environmentally friendly future as we are.
