The Woolmark Company, in collaboration with Austrade and the Australian High Commission, showcased Australia’s continued engagement with India’s textile and apparel industry at Bharat Tex 2026 in New Delhi.

The participation marked more than five decades of association between the Australian wool industry and India’s wool textile and apparel sector. Through Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) and its global brand, The Woolmark Company has worked with Indian manufacturers, brands, educational institutions, research organisations and government bodies to support the development and use of Australian Merino wool.

At Bharat Tex 2026, The Woolmark Company engaged with textile manufacturers, brands, research organisations, government stakeholders and educational institutions to highlight the performance and versatility of Australian Merino wool across fashion, textiles and emerging applications.

A key focus of the participation was the use of Merino wool in performance sportswear. The Woolmark Company shared insights from a recent study on dynamic breathability and showcased innovation-led products at its booth.

The event also provided an opportunity for industry interaction and knowledge exchange. The Woolmark Company, along with Austrade and the Australian High Commission, hosted an industry networking evening that brought together representatives from the textile and apparel ecosystem to discuss innovation, sustainability, natural fibres and Australia–India collaboration.

As part of its Bharat Tex 2026 participation, The Woolmark Company signed two strategic Memorandums of Understanding with The South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) and The Technological Institute of Textile & Sciences (TITS), Bhiwani.

The collaborations will focus on industry innovation, technical capabilities, research, education and market development across the wool value chain. The partnerships are aimed at supporting the development and global competitiveness of India’s wool and textile sector.

Ajay Pradhan, Country Manager, The Woolmark Company, said India has remained one of the organisation’s strategic markets for more than five decades. He added that Bharat Tex provided a platform to strengthen industry partnerships, support innovation and explore new opportunities for Australian Merino wool across India’s textile and apparel value chain.

Todd Miller, Trade & Investment Commissioner, Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), Mumbai, said India was a key market for Australian wool and highlighted the continued partnership between Australian wool exporters and India’s textile industry.

The participation of The Woolmark Company and Austrade at Bharat Tex 2026 highlighted the growing Australia–India textile relationship, with a focus on innovation, sustainability and value-added manufacturing.

Through industry partnerships, technical engagement and research collaborations, The Woolmark Company continues to support the development of wool applications and the long-term growth of India’s wool and textile industry.
