The Woolmark Company has unveiled the latest edition of its Wool Futures initiative, focusing on the future of workwear and outerwear for modern outdoor professions. The concept is led by Woolmark ambassador and renowned explorer Mike Horn.

Redefining Workwear for Extreme Environments

The new Wool Futures concept explores how workwear can evolve to meet the needs of professionals operating in demanding environments such as renewable energy sites, infrastructure projects, regenerative agriculture, and field research.

Rather than overly technical or rigid designs, the concept emphasizes practical, functional clothing rooted in real-world usage.

Natural Intelligence Clothing

At the core of the concept is the idea of “natural intelligence clothing”—garments that intuitively adapt to changing climates, movement, and working conditions while minimizing reliance on synthetic materials.

Modular Wool-Based Layering System

The concept introduces a versatile layering approach built around wool:

  • Merino wool base layers for breathability and thermoregulation
  • Insulating mid-layers for adaptable warmth
  • Durable outer shells designed to resist wind, rain, and abrasion

Some designs also incorporate Woolmark Optim™ technology, enhancing durability and weather protection while reducing the need for synthetic fibres and chemicals.

Sustainability Meets Performance

Designed for professionals contributing to environmental resilience—from energy technicians to conservation experts—the concept highlights wool’s natural performance benefits and low microplastic impact.

By combining sustainability, functionality, and design innovation, Wool Futures presents a forward-looking blueprint for next-generation workwear.
