Natural materials, durable layouts and dedicated beverage stations are emerging as key kitchen design trends for 2027, according to two industry reports.

Kitchen design trends for 2027 highlight a shift towards natural materials, long-lasting functionality and dedicated beverage spaces. The findings come from the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) 2027 Kitchen Trends Report and the Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove 2027 Kitchen Design Forecast.

Natural Materials Gain Popularity

Natural materials such as wood, marble and quartzite are gaining attention for their warmth, durability and ability to develop character over time. According to the NKBA report, 60% of respondents expect blond wood flooring to gain popularity. Meanwhile, 49% anticipate demand for white oak cabinets, while 28% expect walnut to remain popular.

Quartzite is also a leading choice for countertops, with 78% of respondents expecting it to be popular over the next three years. Quartz follows closely at 74%.

Kitchen Design Prioritises Longevity

Durability and long-term functionality are becoming important considerations in kitchen planning. The NKBA report found that 95% of respondents expect homeowners to seek durable, low-maintenance flooring. Additionally, 59% anticipate greater demand for appliances that accommodate different ages and abilities.

Technology is also influencing kitchen design. Some emerging features include AI-integrated ovens, steam cooking, air frying and mobile alerts for power failures or gas leaks. The report also points to growing interest in energy-efficient appliances, including induction cooking.

Designers emphasise that practical layouts, quality materials and accessible storage can help kitchens remain functional as household needs change.

Beverage Stations Extend Beyond the Kitchen

Dedicated beverage centres are another significant kitchen design trend for 2027. The NKBA report indicates that 90% of respondents expect beverage stations to be a leading lifestyle enhancement over the next three years.

These spaces are increasingly extending into living rooms, basements, dining areas and home entertainment zones. Depending on available space, they may include beverage refrigerators, wine storage, sinks, ice makers and dedicated cabinetry.

Together, these trends highlight the importance of combining natural finishes, durable materials and practical features in future kitchen design.
