Archroma and Orta Anadolu (ORTA) have partnered to introduce a new sustainable denim collection dyed using wool waste-based chemistry, marking a significant step toward circular textile production.

The collection will be unveiled at Kingpins Amsterdam, scheduled for April 15–16, 2026, where ORTA will showcase its first denim range created using Archroma’s FiberColors® dyes.

Circular Innovation in Denim Dyeing

FiberColors® dyes are produced using a minimum of 50% pre-consumer wool waste, particularly unwanted fleeces that would otherwise be discarded by sheep farmers. This patented innovation replaces conventional petroleum-based raw materials while maintaining performance standards.

The dyes deliver:

  • Comparable color performance and fastness to traditional sulfur dyes
  • No compromise on water or energy consumption
  • Reduced environmental impact during dye production
  • Compliance with GOTS standards

Commercial-Ready Sustainable Shades

Following successful trials in 2025, ORTA has selected three shades for its debut collection:

  • DIRESUL® FIBER-TEAK (brown)
  • DIRESUL® FIBER-SLATE (blue-grey)
  • DIRESUL® FIBER-GRAPHITE (dark grey)

These shades highlight ORTA’s focus on combining aesthetic appeal with responsible manufacturing, demonstrating the scalability of FiberColors® technology in premium denim applications.

Industry Perspective

“FiberColors® builds directly on the success of our EarthColors® platform, which has now been adopted by more than 50 global brands and helped us upcycle over 60 tons of plant residue from the herbal and pharmaceutical industries. With FiberColors®, we identified wool waste as another significant stream that circular chemistry could transform — giving brands a compelling and fully traceable sustainability story. ORTA’s decision to bring this into commercial denim production is exactly the kind of partnership that proves these technologies are ready to scale,” Julio Perales, Technical & Product Segment Manager Denim, Archroma, said.

ORTA’s Sustainability Vision

Founded in 1953 and specializing in denim since 1985, ORTA has built a global reputation for integrating design innovation with sustainability. The company employs over 1,000 people and continues to lead in responsible denim production.

“We believe that aesthetics and ethics are inseparable,” Sebla Onder, Marketing and Sustainability Manager of ORTA, said. “We are demonstrating that the circular economy is commercially viable today – upcycling waste streams to solve a problem for sheep farmers while creating on-trend denim garments that can themselves be safely recycled and even composted at end of life.”

Conclusion

The collaboration between Archroma and ORTA highlights the growing role of circular chemistry in textile innovation. By transforming wool waste into high-performance dyes, the partnership sets a new benchmark for sustainable denim production—bridging environmental responsibility with commercial viability.
