Techtextil & Texprocess 2026 Spotlight Global Textile Innovation as Performance Apparel Takes Centre Stage
Techtextil and Texprocess 2026 have opened their doors with a strong focus on Performance Apparel Textiles, highlighting how innovation is transforming the global textile industry. Bringing together 1,700 exhibitors from 54 countries, the twin exhibitions showcase advancements ranging from sustainable materials and recycling technologies to digital manufacturing, automation and AI-driven textile processing.
Techtextil hosts 1,500 exhibitors from 52 countries, while Texprocess features 200 exhibitors from 28 countries, reinforcing their position as two of the most influential textile trade fairs in the world.
Performance Apparel Emerges as a Key Innovation Driver
A major theme of the opening press conference was the rapid evolution of Performance Apparel Textiles, a sector experiencing strong demand across sportswear, outdoor apparel, fashion, workwear and protective clothing.
Growing investment in security, defence and disaster response applications is driving demand for textiles that combine durability, protection, comfort and sustainability. As a result, manufacturers are increasingly developing multifunctional fabrics capable of meeting complex performance requirements.
The curated “Performance Apparels on Stage” showcase in Hall 9.0 demonstrates how textile innovation is responding to these changing needs. Selected by an independent jury, the exhibit features advanced products offering flame resistance, UV protection, thermoregulation and integrated smart technologies.
Judith Bosch, Senior Manager Smart and Technical Textiles at ETP and jury member of the showcase, noted that performance textiles today must simultaneously deliver protection, comfort, durability and sustainability, requiring close collaboration between material innovation and processing technologies.
Innovation from Fibre to Finished Product
According to Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt, innovation only creates impact when it can be scaled and commercialised.
He emphasised that Techtextil and Texprocess serve as platforms where ideas move beyond laboratories to become market-ready solutions, connecting the entire value chain from fibre development to final application.
The 2026 edition also features the newly consolidated Textile Chemicals & Dyes segment and an expanded Nature Performance area, where more than 110 exhibitors are showcasing natural and bio-based fibres and yarns. The Performance Apparel Textiles segment has doubled in exhibitor participation compared to the previous edition.
Advanced Textile Solutions on Display
Among the standout innovations presented during the opening press conference were:
Protective Suit for Extreme Conditions
Developed by the Saxon Textile Research Institute, the Molotov Cocktail Protective Suit is designed for special forces operating in high-risk environments for extended periods. The garment combines flame protection with lightweight comfort through advanced fibre blends, fabric construction and weaving technologies.
Chemical-Free UV Protection
KARL MAYER Textilmaschinen introduced a Warp Knitted UV Protection Jacket offering UV 50+ protection without chemical finishing treatments. The dense warp-knitted construction delivers breathability, comfort and shape retention while maintaining effective sun protection.
Durable Recycled PPE Fabrics
Tejidos Royo presented ROYOTEC Timeless, a multi-risk fabric designed for certified personal protective equipment. Featuring inherent flame-retardant properties and 25% recycled content, the fabric maintains its performance even after 100 industrial washes.
Digitalisation, AI and Start-up Innovation
Texprocess 2026 highlights the growing role of automation, digitalisation and artificial intelligence in textile manufacturing. Visitors can explore solutions covering the entire production process, from design and product development to cutting, sewing and finishing.
Another key attraction is the Start-up Stars area, which provides emerging companies with direct access to industry leaders, investors and research institutions, fostering collaboration and accelerating innovation across the textile value chain.
Setting the Benchmark for the Future
As sustainability, functionality and digital transformation reshape the industry, Techtextil and Texprocess 2026 demonstrate how textile manufacturers are responding to increasingly complex market demands. By bringing together innovators, researchers, technology providers and brands from around the world, the exhibitions continue to serve as a global benchmark for textile innovation and manufacturing excellence.
Running in Frankfurt from 21–24 April, the events provide a comprehensive view of the technologies, materials and solutions that will define the next generation of textile products and processes.
