Ikano Industry Debuts Ikona Mattress Brand for North American Retail Market

Sweden-based manufacturer expands beyond Ikea with its first consumer-facing wholesale mattress brand focused on sustainability and performance.

For nearly two decades, Ikano Industry has operated behind the scenes as one of Ikea’s largest global mattress suppliers. Now, the Sweden-based manufacturer is entering the spotlight with the launch of Ikona, its first consumer-facing wholesale mattress brand for retailers, hospitality businesses and private-label customers across North America.

The new brand represents a strategic move by Ikano Industry to diversify beyond its long-standing manufacturing relationship with Ikea while leveraging its large-scale, vertically integrated production capabilities.

Rather than selling directly to consumers, Ikona will focus exclusively on retail distribution, hospitality partnerships and contract manufacturing opportunities across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Three Mattress Collections

Ikona is launching with three product collections designed to serve different comfort preferences and price segments:

  • Solara – Starting at $799 (Queen)
  • Térrava – Starting at $1,199 (Queen)
  • Borealis – Starting at $1,499 (Queen)

The company also plans to showcase the brand at the Winter Las Vegas Market in January 2027 while completing a new showroom adjacent to its manufacturing campus near Monterrey, Mexico.

Manufacturing Network

Most Ikona mattresses will be produced at Ikano Industry’s large-scale manufacturing facility in Mexico, supported by additional production capabilities in the United States and Europe. The company said its diversified manufacturing footprint provides sourcing flexibility as global trade policies continue to evolve.

Founded by the family of Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad, Ikano Group has operated independently from Ikea for decades, although Ikea remains its largest customer. The family-owned company is now investing in expanding its customer base while building on its manufacturing expertise.

Sustainability at the Core

Sustainability forms the foundation of the Ikona brand strategy through the company’s proprietary RePoliol technology. The chemical recycling process converts polyurethane foam back into its base polyol ingredient, allowing it to be reused in new foam production instead of being discarded.

Unlike conventional mechanical recycling, the technology enables foam materials to remain within the mattress manufacturing cycle while reducing landfill waste. The company has been producing RePoliol since 2013, with many of its foam formulations incorporating the recycled material.

In addition to recycled foam, Ikona mattresses feature recycled steel coils, bamboo fabrics and internally recycled fiber materials.

Performance-Focused Sleep Technology

Alongside sustainability, Ikona is emphasizing sleep performance through proprietary technologies.

Its IkoMapping system incorporates five to seven ergonomic support zones designed to improve spinal alignment and relieve pressure. The premium Borealis collection also features IkoHarmony technology, enabling each side of the mattress to offer a different comfort level for individual sleep preferences.

The company is targeting Millennials and younger Generation X consumers who increasingly view quality sleep as an important factor in daily health, productivity and overall well-being.

Vertically Integrated Production

Ikano Industry’s vertically integrated manufacturing model remains one of its key competitive strengths. The company manufactures many of its own mattress components, including proprietary foam formulations, allowing it to maintain product quality while offering competitive pricing.

According to the company, Ikano Industry manufactured more than 3.5 million mattresses in 2025 across its operations in Europe, Mexico and the United States and currently serves 17 global markets.
