ASPA Presents Strategic Anti-Counterfeiting Roadmap at ASIA Security Conference 2025

New Delhi, August 5, 2025 – The Authentication Solution Providers’ Association (ASPA), India’s leading industry association for anti-counterfeiting and traceability, presented its latest thought leadership paper titled “ASPA – The Global Voice of Anti-Counterfeiting Solutions” at the ASIA Security Conference & Exhibition on Anti-Counterfeiting, Illicit Trade & Brand Protection, held on July 24, 2025, in New Delhi.

The paper, presented by Mr. Puneet Maithani, Director – Industry Affairs at ASPA, emphasized the need for collective action, enhanced consumer awareness, and robust sectoral engagement to tackle the growing threat of counterfeiting. During his address, Mr. Maithani highlighted the significance of a unified, multi-stakeholder approach to eliminate illicit trade and protect consumer interests.

“Our collective mission must be to safeguard consumers, protect brands, and uphold trust. Through evidence-based research, collaboration, and the adoption of authentication technologies, we can build a future where counterfeiting is no longer a silent threat,” he stated.

ASPA, now comprising 92 member companies, continues to extend its global influence. With the launch of its Middle East Chapter in 2024, the organization provides a wide range of authentication solutions—including physical, digital, and hybrid (phygital) systems—to enhance brand protection and supply chain transparency.

Highlights from ASPA-CRISIL Report & Upcoming Research

The session also shed light on findings from the ASPA–CRISIL report titled “State of Counterfeiting in India 2022”, which detailed the scale and consequences of counterfeiting across vulnerable sectors such as pharmaceuticals, FMCG, automotive, consumer durables, agro-inputs, and apparel.

Each sector faces unique risks—ranging from public health threats due to counterfeit drugs, to economic and safety concerns from fake auto parts and agro-products. The report emphasizes how counterfeit infiltration erodes consumer confidence and brand credibility.

In addition, ASPA announced the renewal of its partnership with CRISIL to develop the 2025 edition of the report. This forthcoming study will provide a comparative evaluation with 2022 data, offering valuable insights for policymakers, regulators, and brand stakeholders to monitor progress and recalibrate anti-counterfeiting efforts.

ASPA’s Thought Leadership and Ecosystem Initiatives

The paper further highlighted ASPA’s ongoing efforts to advance anti-counterfeiting measures across India and globally through key initiatives:

  • Six successful editions of the Traceability & Authentication Forum promoting dialogue between government and industry.

  • The Authentication Times – ASPA’s flagship publication, offering expert commentary, case studies, and market trends.

  • ASPA Supplier Directory 2024 – a vetted list of trusted authentication solution providers.

  • CNR (Counterfeit News Repository) – ASPA’s long-term project tracking counterfeit-related incidents in India, which have grown by 18.5% between 2018 and 2024.

These programs position ASPA as a thought leader in shaping authentication frameworks and fostering collaboration between global and Indian stakeholders.

With evolving threats in counterfeiting, ASPA continues to empower industries with the latest tools, insights, and collaborative strategies needed to secure supply chains and protect brand value at both national and international levels.
