Columbus, Ohio — A WARN notice submitted on December 19 states that Big Lots, a top 100 retailer, will lay off up to 555 corporate employees in Ohio. Bruce Thorn’s role as president and CEO is one of the positions that is being let off.

It’s the most recent development in the ongoing bankruptcy case of the bargain retailer based in Columbus, Ohio. It was disclosed on December 19 that it was starting going-out-of-business sales at its remaining stores while it searches for new arrangements, and that its acquisition agreement with Nexus Capital Management seemed unlikely to be finalized.

The notice, which was submitted to the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services, states that mass layoffs at the company’s Columbus headquarters, which is located at 4900 East Dublin Granville Road, are anticipated to start the week of December 29 and be finished by April 2025.

The layoffs include the president/CEO post as well as other managers and directors, three executive vice presidents, eight senior vice presidents, and 27 vice presidents.
