A Landmark Collaboration to Enhance Investment and Infrastructure in the Textile Sector

 In a significant development for Chhattisgarh’s textile sector, an MoU was signed between the Chhattisgarh Government and the Chhattisgarh Industries and Mineral Manufacturers’ Association (CII-MII) during the fair at Bombay Exhibition Centre. The MoU aims to give a major boost to the state’s textile industry.

The event saw key figures from both the Chhattisgarh government and CII-MII, all highlighting the growing potential of the textile industry in the state.

Speaking at the event, Shri Amitabh Jain, Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh, expressed his gratitude to CII-MII for the honor of hosting the event and for their role in fostering the state’s textile industry. He emphasized that the textile sector’s growth would be a cornerstone of Chhattisgarh’s economic development, noting the recent Cabinet approval to establish a National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in New Raipur with an investment of ₹70 crore. This institute will further promote the textile industry in the state.

Shri Jain highlighted that Chhattisgarh’s Kosa silk, particularly from the Bastar and Surguja regions, has a growing demand in domestic and international markets. The natural Kosa silk cocoon found in the region adds to the immense potential for textile growth. The establishment of NIFT, combined with the support from CII-MII, is expected to assist significantly in branding and promoting Chhattisgarh’s textile products.

The state’s focus on industrial growth aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India by 2047. Chhattisgarh has adopted a new industrial policy, which has already resulted in investment proposals worth ₹4.5 lakh crore from major cities like Raipur, Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. This initiative is aimed at ensuring sustainable growth, particularly in the textile sector, which is integral to rural employment, technology, and skill development.

Chhattisgarh is committed to providing incentives and support for MSMEs in the textile sector, including grants for enterprises employing over 1,000 locals. Special incentives have been provided for businesses in regions like Bastar and Surguja. The state’s emphasis on “Ease of Doing Business” and “Speed of Doing Business” is streamlining processes, which is reflected in quick approvals and successful projects such as the semiconductor plant with a ₹1,145 crore investment.

Infrastructure, particularly water and electricity, plays a key role in the textile industry. Chhattisgarh, with its abundant natural resources, is poised to meet these needs. Additionally, the state’s strategic location and infrastructure projects, including the commencement of cargo services at Raipur Airport and an expanding railway network, will further facilitate the growth of the textile sector.

Education and skill development are integral to Chhattisgarh’s industrial policy. The presence of institutions like IIT, IIM, IIIT, and the National Law University is helping prepare a skilled workforce for the textile industry. The MoU with CII-MII will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the textile industry in Chhattisgarh, with promising incentives for investors.

Message to Investors: Shri Jain urged textile investors from across India and the world to take advantage of the favorable investment climate in Chhattisgarh. The state government promises full support to textile-related ventures, offering an enabling environment for growth.
