Global print community remembers a visionary leader who helped shape FESPA’s international growth and digital transformation

FESPA has announced with deep sadness the passing of Anders Nilsson, former FESPA President and longstanding Board Member, whose leadership and dedication played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s global presence and influence within the specialty print industry.

A respected industry figure, Anders Nilsson served as President of FESPA from 2007 to 2010, guiding the federation through a transformative period marked by international expansion, technological evolution, and growing industry collaboration.

Driving FESPA’s Global Expansion

During his presidency, Nilsson championed the expansion of FESPA’s association network across Asia and other emerging markets, helping strengthen the federation’s position as a truly global organization. His vision and commitment to international engagement laid the groundwork for FESPA’s continued growth and relevance within the worldwide print community.

His efforts contributed significantly to building stronger connections between industry associations, suppliers, printers, and technology partners, creating a broader and more inclusive global network for the specialty print sector.

Championing Digital Innovation

Nilsson’s tenure coincided with a period of rapid technological change in the printing industry. Following the successful launch of FESPA Digital in 2006, he supported the federation’s increasing focus on digital printing technologies and emerging innovations that would go on to reshape wide-format print production worldwide.

Under his leadership, FESPA adapted to the changing needs of printers and manufacturers, helping industry professionals navigate the transition toward digital workflows, new applications, and evolving business opportunities.

More Than Two Decades of Service

Anders Nilsson served on the FESPA Board for 21 years, from 2000 to 2021, making him one of the organization’s longest-serving leaders. Following his presidency, he continued to contribute as FESPA’s Asia Ambassador, where he worked closely with regional associations and partners to strengthen the federation’s presence and relationships throughout Asia.

His dedication extended beyond FESPA International. At FESPA Sweden, Nilsson played an active leadership role from 1994 to 2026. In recognition of his outstanding service and commitment to the industry, he was named Honorary Chair of FESPA Sweden in 2023.

Industry Leader and Entrepreneur

Outside his federation responsibilities, Nilsson was the CEO and owner of Gamleby Screen AB, a leading Swedish large-format printing company. His practical business experience and deep understanding of print technologies enabled him to bring valuable commercial insights to his leadership roles within FESPA.

Colleagues and industry peers widely respected him not only for his business acumen but also for his passion for advancing the print sector and supporting industry professionals worldwide.

Remembered for His Character

Beyond his professional achievements, Anders Nilsson will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and ability to build meaningful relationships throughout the global print community.

Known for his approachable nature, sense of humor, and genuine interest in people, he formed lasting friendships across the industry and became a highly respected and beloved figure within FESPA and beyond.

Paying tribute, FESPA President Daniel Sunderland described Nilsson as a dear friend whose contributions came during one of the organization’s most exciting and transformative periods.

“His ability to connect with people across various regions helped to form the FESPA that we know today. Anders will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him and working with him,” Sunderland said.

A Lasting Legacy

Anders Nilsson’s influence on FESPA, the specialty print sector, and the wider global printing industry will continue to be felt for years to come.
