Heimtextil 2027 will bring young design talent to Frankfurt. The New Talent Area will return for its second edition.
The area will feature more than 30 participants. Many will present their work at an international trade fair for the first time.
Heimtextil 2027 will take place from 12 to 15 January 2027. The New Talent Area will be located in Hall 4.2.
New Talent Area Expands
Jennifer Castoldi of Trendease International curates the New Talent Area. The platform first launched at Heimtextil 2026.
The first edition received a positive response. As a result, the area has grown for 2027.
Institutions and sponsors are also supporting the young designers. They are helping new talent enter the textile market.
The projects cover different stages of development. Some focus on new materials and design ideas. Others are ready for retail and practical use.
The designs also cover several key topics. These include sustainability, circularity, bio-based materials, heritage and craftsmanship.
Neurodiversity is another theme explored by some participants.
Designers from Around the World
The 2027 participants come from several countries. These include Canada, China, Denmark, England, Germany, Norway, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland and Wales.
Most participants will attend Heimtextil for the first time. However, two designers will return under the New Talents Plus label. They are Elis Blackwood and Severina Seidl.
Blackwood runs e.L.s designs. Her work focuses on textile art and surface design. Seidl is an artist, designer and hand embroiderer. She will also return to the programme in 2027.
Hallie Graham Brings Scottish Folklore
Hallie Graham is one of the new participants. She will present her Tales of Lost Wonder collection.
The collection features hand-printed textile wallpapers. Graham takes inspiration from Scottish folklore and mythology. She uses several textile techniques. These include devoré, discharge dyeing and reactive dyeing.
Graham also uses digital design tools. This helps her turn handmade designs into market-ready products.
Cascavel Combines Design and Research
Cascavel is another new creative studio at Heimtextil 2027. The studio works across three areas. These include science, history and contemporary craft.
Its scientific work explores patterns with therapeutic properties. These patterns may have an effect on areas such as blood pressure.
Cascavel also works with historical materials. The studio is restoring and digitising a collection of 60,000 rare books.
The books provide ideas for new textile designs. The studio also creates handmade collections based on trend research.
FibreLab Focuses on Textile Recycling
London-based start-up FibreLab will present new recycling solutions.
The company works with businesses across the United Kingdom. Its goal is to turn textile waste into new materials.
At Heimtextil 2027, FibreLab will showcase a new paper material. The material is made from 100% recycled textile waste. It can be used for marketing and packaging applications.
The New Talent Area will therefore highlight both design and material innovation. It will also give emerging designers a platform to connect with the textile industry.
