IKEA Mini Homes Show Smart Small-Space Ideas

IKEA has launched a new IKEA Open House experience featuring miniature homes in Melbourne, Chengdu and Beijing. The campaign shows how small and affordable changes can make homes more useful, comfortable and organised.

Today, homes often serve many purposes. They can be offices, creative spaces, classrooms and places to relax. As a result, making better use of limited space has become more important.

IKEA says affordability plays a key role when people decide to improve their homes. The new Open House experience focuses on simple ideas that can make everyday living easier without major changes.

For the campaign, IKEA worked with Stockholm-based miniature artist Christopher Robin Nordström, also known as @TokyoBuild. He created the homes by hand at a 1:12 scale.

Each miniature home reflects the lifestyle and character of its city. In Melbourne, a small Billy bookcase includes tiny books and art prints. The design also features references to the city’s sporting culture.

In Chengdu and Beijing, Metod kitchens show how culture and daily routines can influence home design.

The miniature homes also highlight a simple idea: every item in a home should have a purpose. Smart storage and thoughtful organisation can help people create more space without changing the size of their homes.

The IKEA Open House experience will continue in stores through September. Visitors can explore storage ideas, room settings, organisation solutions and affordable ways to create more functional living spaces.
