Intertextile Directions Reveals Autumn / Winter 2027-28 Fabric Trends

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Autumn Edition has unveiled its Intertextile Directions Trends for Autumn/Winter 2027-28, introducing the theme “A QUEST FOR ESSENCE” as a reflection of changing consumer emotions, creativity and the evolving relationship between materials and human experiences.

In a period shaped by uncertainty and rapid transformation, the trend direction encourages the textile and fashion industry to explore authenticity, emotional connection and adaptive creativity. The concept highlights how designers can combine technology, craftsmanship and innovative materials to create meaningful products that move beyond uniformity.

The Intertextile Directions Trend Forum, scheduled from 25–27 August 2026, will showcase fabric and accessory innovations through three central themes — FEEL YOUR SERENITY, LIVE YOUR EMOTIONS, and PLAY YOUR ROLE. The forum will introduce a new sensory dimension through a collaboration between Intertextile Apparel and Notes Shanghai, a premium niche fragrance exhibition within the Messe Frankfurt portfolio.

Curated by MUSEATIVE, a member of the Intertextile Directions Trend Committee, the installation will combine textiles with fragrance elements to create an immersive experience. Exhibitors from across the show floor will contribute fabric samples representing each theme, allowing visitors to explore trend-driven materials and connect with suitable suppliers.

The Autumn/Winter 2027-28 trend directions have been developed by global creative experts including ELEMENTI MODA (Milan), MUSEATIVE (New York), NellyRodi™ Agency (Paris), and Sachiko Inoue (Tokyo), drawing inspiration from international fashion insights and material innovation.

Three Key Trend Directions

FEEL YOUR SERENITY: Comfort Through Sensory Design

The theme explores urban living through the lens of balance, wellbeing and functional comfort. Featuring tinted whites, soft neutrals and calming future-inspired tones, the direction focuses on materials that create a sense of protection and relaxation.

Key materials include second-skin stretch jersey, rubberised peach skin, techno taffetas, iridescent nylon, plush blankets and cozy fleece. The theme is complemented by Peach Fuzz, a fragrance combining peachy musks and creamy floral notes to enhance the feeling of softness and tranquillity.

LIVE YOUR EMOTIONS: Connecting with Memory and Simplicity

This theme celebrates the emotional value of everyday objects by focusing on timeless materials, craftsmanship and natural influences. The colour palette reflects earthy tones and nostalgic inspirations, encouraging a renewed connection with nature and heritage.

Featured materials include felted worsted wools, Shetland wool, tweeds, corduroy, workwear denim, performance jersey, outdoor rainproof fabrics, waxed canvas and coated nylon. The theme pairs with Nanaland, a playful fragrance featuring banana and spice notes layered with gourmand elements.

PLAY YOUR ROLE: Fantasy, Luxury and Expression

Inspired by a desire for individuality and emotional expression, this theme explores theatricality, couture influences and modern luxury. Rich colours combine with refined materials to create dramatic yet sophisticated textile experiences.

The direction highlights suiting twills, cashmere-silk blends, stiff organza, patinated brocades, voile, plumetis and tapestry-inspired jacquards. The sensory experience is completed with Sandal Whisper, a fragrance featuring saffron, oud, floral notes and creamy sandalwood.

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Autumn Edition will bring together global textile suppliers, designers and industry professionals alongside Yarn Expo Autumn, CHIC and PH Value at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), creating a comprehensive platform covering the apparel textile value chain.

The fair is co-organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT, and the China Textile Information Center.

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Autumn Edition will be held from 25–27 August 2026.
