Germany’s Heidenheim/Brenz-  A new technology created by Outlast Technologies GmbH offers a way to achieve warmth without adding weight.

For instance, full winter blankets can be as light as summer blankets because to the technology’s ability to directly combine the insulating and incredibly light substance aerogel into viscose strands.

The fibers coated with Aersulate provide up to 35% better insulating performance than traditional viscose fibers, according to preliminary tests conducted by an independent institute.

According to Volker Schuster, head of research and development at Outlast Technologies, Aerogel is a silicate-based solid made from quartz sand that has a special insulating effect.

Aerogel’s incredibly porous structure—which is 98% air—is the basis for its exceptional insulating capabilities. Aerogel binds the air inside the fiber to maintain its insulating qualities even under pressure and/or wetness, in contrast to conventional insulation, which relies on trapped air to control heat.

“For many years, aerogel has been a crucial component of NASA space missions due to its unique properties,” Schuster said. “This offers it a significant edge over conventional materials, which essentially cease to function in such circumstances.”

Aersulate-treated wadding outperforms traditional viscose fibers in terms of insulation by 35%, according to an independent, ISO-certified laboratory.

Schuster clarified, “This means that Aersulate can make duvet fillings 35% lighter without sacrificing any thermal performance.” “To satisfy the increasing demands for quality and functionality, bedding manufacturers can now create products that are incredibly lightweight and highly insulating.”

The novel Aersulate-treated fibers will be introduced for the first time by Outlast Technologies at Heimtextil 2025. The business will be situated in C51, Hall 11.0.
